An email from EWMCE conference organizing committee arrived. "What is it for? It must be an announcement that conference is about to start, and U must make arrangement soon,bla......bla.....bla....... ", I thought. I dont need this. U have refused to respond our email on grant. I'm not going - have no money!
But I opened it anyway.
It was written :
" Dear Author,
The Waste-The Social Context '08 Organizing Committee has received a grant towards the conference from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). We have received many requests from delegates for assistance, and after careful consideration, we have chosen a handful of authors as recipients of the grant. Congratulations! You were chosen as one of the authors......"
Wow! Alhamdulillahi Robbil Al Amin.......
But, mmm.......the grant is not enough to cover 2 persons (the authors are 2, me & my cousin).
And I have to make itinerary fast, the ticket price is skyrocketting everyday.
Anyone knows about Vancouver, Edmonton St. Alberta & ...... Elk Island National Park? Or, maybe U have a friend who knows about those places? I need to make arrangement on accommodation myself - a simple one : B&B, hostels/guesthouse, whatever - the grant is only enough to cover return tickets for 2 and the conference fee (paper presenters need to pay, too......please deeehh.....tega bennerr...).
Heloo salam kenal. Kapan konferensinya nih? Lokasinya di St. Albert ya? Itu kota kecil di pinggiran Edmonton. Bagus kotanya. Kira-kira 1 jam dari airport atau 30 menit dari downtown Edmonton. Kalo mau nginap di downtown ada backpaker hostel di Jasper Avenue (http://www.gohostels.ca/), trus nanti bisa naik bus ke St. Albert. Dari luar sih keliatannya hostel ini baguslah. Mudah2an dah buka saat spring ini. Sayang saya dah nggak di Edmonton lagi. Kalo mu cari hotel yg murah2 dan layak coba google di whyte avenue ( semacam daerah pusat turis backpaker kayak jalan jaksa-Jakarta).
Wah, nggak tau... Saya sama sekali buta daerah di luar Ontario. Soalnya, Edmonton itu di propinsi Alberta, kurang lebih agak ke barat Canada. Saya lebih deket ke Timur.
Coba cari di google, student di sekitar alberta, atau british columbia, propinsi tetangganya Alberta. Orang Indonesia keknya banya kjuga di Vancouver, yang masuk ke propinsi BC. Mungkin yang di British Columbia (tepi Barat) lebih banayk tau Edmonton.

Someone warned you about Edmonton in relation to what? It is a beautiful city with lots of festivals in the summer. I have lived here for many years and I love it. SO unless someone says something and they have never been or lived here, it is utter nonsense...and if you are booking to stay someplace, get a hold of a travel agent who knows a little something about this place I call home....Enjoy it while your here

It's in relation to the weather.
I am considering cycling to get to Elk Island National Park but some resident warned me that it might still snow on May 19.
The weather is quite finnicky in spring, and at times we "might" get snow in April, lots of times May is warner but you never know. It has it's days and around here we just go with the flow as Spring can have any type of weather, it has nothing to do what the calander says.

BTW, do you know any Canada/Edmonton nature lover groups or mailing lists of them that I could contact/join? I am planning to see sub-tropical wildlife but there's no public transportation to get to national parks. I won't rent a car as I don't have international driving license. Taking a tour is not my way of traveling. Perhaps some nature lovers have the same plan as mine around May 16-17 that I could join?
